Capabilities

Start with your part. Define the right tooling.

Part geometry, resin and production requirements shape the mold. Share your drawings and discuss the approach your project needs.

01 / Tooling approach

Tooling options for your project

Single-cavity molds

A dedicated cavity for the specified part.

Multi-cavity molds

Multiple cavities configured around the project requirements.

Hot runner molds

A heated melt delivery system selected for the application.

Cold runner molds

A solidifying runner system selected for the application.

Insert molds

Tooling for parts incorporating specified inserts.

02 / Steel selection reference

Choose the steel for the application.

Resin abrasiveness, corrosion risk, surface finish, tool life and maintenance all influence the choice. These are general references; project material specifications and sourcing are agreed individually.

P20

General steel designation

A common starting point for prehardened mold steel discussions. Specify the exact producer grade, delivery condition and section size; modified products differ.

Uddeholm · Impax Supreme

718H

Commercial grade naming

Used commercially for prehardened mold steels. Do not treat every “718H” as identical. Match the supplier datasheet, hardness and material certificate; ASSAB 718 HH is one specific branded product.

ASSAB · 718 HH

NAK80

Daido Steel trade name

A precipitation-hardening mold steel described by its producer for polishability and machinability. Surface requirements and the producer’s processing guidance should drive selection.

Daido Steel · NAK80

S136

Commercial label — verify producer

A commercial label that needs a precise producer specification. Compare a proposed corrosion-resistant steel against its own datasheet; do not assume equivalence with a named product such as Stavax ESR.

ASSAB · Stavax ESR reference

H13

General hot-work steel designation

A hot-work tool steel designation used in tooling discussions where temperature, toughness and wear matter. Confirm the exact grade and heat-treatment plan rather than selecting on the name alone.

BÖHLER · W302 ISOBLOC

Producer product names and general steel designations are not interchangeable. References do not indicate factory inventory, purchasing source, heat-treatment capability or guaranteed performance.
